Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was born in leytonstone, London. He often described his childhood as being very lonely and sheltered, a situation compounded by his obesity. Hitchcock's father William had once asked the local police station to lock up Alfred for around 10 minutes, for behaving badly. As a consequence of this I believe that this influenced Alfred tremendously. During Alfred's life he became the master of suspense, whose films came to be the benchmark for 'psychological' thrillers.
One of Alfred's sayings is 'there is no terror in a bang, only the anticipation of it', meaning that Hitchcock sets out to produce suspense and build tension as that is the only way to make a good thriller.
