Diegetic sound- is sound which is part of the film world we are watching. This can be dialogue, music or sound effects which come from a source within the film world. the music in his instance will be from a source in the film which we acknowledge could actually be producing music, for example a CD player of jukebox.
Non-diegetic sound- is sound which we do not recognise as part of the film world such as a voice over or background music.
Parallel sound- is sound that is produced that compliments the scene that we are looking at, for example if we see children playing on the beach we expect to hear happy voices and light hearted music.
Contrapuntal sound- this is when the sound produced does not match the scene, causing confusion in the audience. example, hearing sinister music while children are playing on the beach.
