defining 'Thriller'

"The thriller is a very difficult genre to pin down because it covers a range of films. Thrillers are films of suspense...that are supposed to instill terror into the audience." Susan Wayward, Key Concepts in Film. 
This quote is basically trying to say how hard it is to define thriller. there are many key concepts that need to be taken into considerations before producing a thriller.

There are many types of thriller, for example:
Spy Thrillers
Conspiricy Thrillers
Political Thrillers
Legal Thrillers
and finally, Psychological Thrillers.
